What we do

Wiring for the house you live in and the shop you run.

Most calls start with something that stopped working, or something new you want to plug in. We check what your system can carry, do the work to code, and tell you plainly if anything else needs attention.

Panel & service upgrades

Old fuse boxes, panels with no open slots, and 60- or 100-amp services that can’t carry an EV charger or a new kitchen. We size the upgrade to what you actually run, pull the permit, schedule the shutoff with ComEd and meet the inspector.

100 · 200 amp · Fuse box replacement

EV chargers

A Level 2 charger in the garage or on the driveway. We check whether your panel can carry it first, run the circuit, mount the charger you bought or help you pick one, and handle the permit.

Level 2 · Load check · Permit

Generator hookups

When a storm takes the power out, you want the furnace, sump pump and fridge running without cords through a window. We install inlet boxes with interlocks for portable generators, and transfer switches for standby units.

Inlet · Interlock · Transfer switch

Lighting

Recessed lights, kitchen pendants, under-cabinet strips, ceiling fans, dimmers and outdoor lights. We plan the layout with you and fish wire through the walls with as few holes as the job allows.

Recessed · Pendants · Fans · Outdoor

Troubleshooting

A breaker that keeps tripping, an outlet that went dead, lights that dim when the AC kicks on, a GFCI that won’t reset. We trace it to the cause with a meter instead of swapping parts until it goes away.

Tripping · Dead outlets · Flicker

Code corrections

Home inspection flagged double-tapped breakers, missing GFCIs, open junction boxes or a do-it-yourself basement circuit? We work through the list and give you a written summary for the buyer or seller.

Inspection lists · GFCI · Smoke alarms

Remodel & light-commercial wiring

Kitchen and basement remodels, additions, and small shops and offices. We rough in before the drywall goes up, finish after, work to your contractor’s schedule or yours, and handle the permit and both inspections.

Kitchens · Basements · Additions · Small shops

Not sure if it can wait until morning?

Text a photo of the panel, the outlet or the breaker that won’t reset. We’ll tell you if it needs someone today and what to switch off in the meantime.

On the job

Panels, garages, kitchens and everything behind the walls.

How it works

From the first call to the lights back on.

Call or text

Tell us what’s happening. If something smells hot or is sparking, we tell you what to switch off first.

Look & price

At the house we find the cause and give you the price before we touch anything. You decide.

Do the work

Most repairs are done the same visit. Upgrades and installs get a set date, with the permit already pulled.

Test & clean up

We test every circuit we touched with you, label the panel, and leave the area clean.

Sample reviews for this demo · a live site shows the business’s real Google reviews

“Our kitchen breaker kept tripping. He found a loose connection in a box behind the fridge in about twenty minutes, and never tried to sell us a new panel.”

Sample review · not a real customer

“We were told we’d need a new panel for our car charger. He ran the numbers, showed us we had room, and had the charger working the same afternoon.”

Sample review · not a real customer

“Put in a generator inlet before winter. He walked us through switching over, step by step, and taped a card with the steps inside the panel door.”

Questions

What people ask us most.

Are you licensed? I heard Illinois doesn’t license electricians.
Illinois has no statewide electrician license; each town sets its own rules. Some, like Libertyville, license electricians by exam. Others register contractors or accept a license from another town. We hold the license or registration each town we work in requires, carry liability insurance, and pull the permit when the job needs one. Ask and we’ll send the insurance certificate.
Do I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?
Often not. A load calculation shows what your panel already carries. Many 200-amp homes have room for a Level 2 charger as they are; older 100-amp services sometimes need an upgrade or a load-management device. We check before we quote, so you don’t pay for an upgrade you don’t need.
My breaker keeps tripping. Is the breaker bad?
Usually not. A breaker trips because something on that circuit draws too much, shorts, or leaks to ground. Unplug what’s on the circuit and reset it once. If it trips again with nothing plugged in, or the breaker or panel feels hot, leave it off and call us. Don’t keep resetting it.
Can I just plug my generator into an outlet?
No. Feeding a generator back through an outlet can energize the utility lines and injure a lineworker, and it can start a fire in the house. An inlet box with an interlock, or a transfer switch, is the safe way to do it, and on most homes it’s a one-day job.
Something smells like burning. What do I do?
If you see smoke or flames, get everyone out and call 911. If it’s only a hot or burning smell from an outlet, switch or the panel, turn off that breaker, or the main if you can’t tell which, and call us. Don’t use that outlet until it’s been checked.
