Painting contractor website design for Lake County & McHenry County painters

A homeowner hiring a painter is picking someone to work inside their house for a week, or up a ladder outside it. They decide on photos and on trust. Show them finished rooms, straight cut lines and a crew that covers the floors, and they call you for the estimate instead of collecting three more.

Two taps from Google to your phone ringing.

Nobody hires a painter without seeing the before and after. The site has to show it on a phone, then make the call one tap away. Larkhollow, our painting demo, is built that way.

The problem

Every painter says they’re neat. Only some can show it.

Painting is bought on trust, and the trust gets checked on a phone before anyone calls.

The work sounds the same in a sentence

Clean lines, careful prep, on time. Every painter writes it, so it reads as nothing. A page of your own before-and-after photos, from rooms and houses around here, says it without the adjectives.

Exterior work has a short window

Northern Illinois winters push outside painting into the warmer months, and the label on the can decides how cold is too cold. Homeowners line up exteriors in spring for the summer. If they can’t find you while they’re planning, your summer fills with whoever they found instead.

Older houses come with a federal rule

A lot of houses here were built before 1978, and EPA lead rules cover paid work that disturbs paint in them. Careful buyers, and landlords especially, look for a painter who knows that. A site that says nothing about it leaves them guessing.

Color is the part people dread

Choosing the color is where a lot of homeowners stall, and the painter who helps them choose is often the one who gets the job. If you offer color consultations or sample patches, the site should say so plainly, not save it for the estimate.

What it takes

What a painting site needs to book the estimate.

Six things, and the first one does most of the selling.

Before-and-after, sorted by job

Interiors, exteriors, cabinets, decks and commercial, each with paired photos from your own jobs, taken from the same spot. Homeowners scroll to the one that looks like their house.

Lead-safe, said plainly

Paid work that disturbs paint in homes built before 1978 needs an EPA lead-safe certified firm. If you hold that certification, the site says so near the top. If you don’t, it doesn’t hint at it: EPA rules bar firms from advertising that work without it.

Insurance and reviews in view

A painter is on ladders outside the house and inside it for days. Your insurance, your years in business and your real Google reviews belong near the top, where the person deciding whether to let a crew in will see them.

A page per kind of job

Interior painting, exterior painting, cabinet refinishing and commercial repaints. Each is its own search with its own buyer, and a property manager after a repaint between tenants won’t read the kitchen cabinet page. Exteriors often start with a wash; see our pressure washing website design page.

Color help, offered up front

If you do color consultations, sample boards or test patches on the wall, give it its own section. It is the step homeowners are least sure about, and the one that makes them call you instead of the next name.

Straight talk about the estimate

Say how you price: a free in-home estimate, a price per room, or a written quote after a walkthrough. And say what’s included: prep, patching, primer, how many coats, cleanup. That is what people compare between three painters.

Proof

A real painter’s site, built as a demo.

Straight answer: no painting contractor has hired us yet. So we built one. Larkhollow Painting Co. is a made-up Lake County painter, built to the same standard as our client sites, and it says it’s a demo on every page. The live client site we point people to is Creative Concrete Company in Palatine, a paying client in a different trade.

What Larkhollow shows

Exteriors get booked in a short northern Illinois season and interiors fill the rest of the year. The demo is built around that calendar, with a before-and-after gallery by surface and a text-us-photos-for-a-price button.

  • A gallery sorted by surface, the way a painting site would sort rooms, exteriors and cabinets.
  • “Text photos for a price” sits next to the call button, so a homeowner can send the peeling trim before you drive out.
  • The damage worry is answered on the page; for a painter, that means floors covered, furniture put back and lead-safe work.
  • A commercial section of its own, for property managers who want insurance and a schedule.
  • Every review on it is marked as a sample. Yours would be your real Google reviews, quoted exactly.
  • Spanish is one tap away, the same page in both languages.

If you paint houses in Lake or McHenry County, you could be the first painter on this page. The mockup is free whether or not you go ahead.

Straight answers

Questions painters put to us.

What does a painting contractor website cost?
Three flat builds. The Attack Line is $1,000 for a single page plus privacy and terms. Working Fire is $2,500 for up to five pages and fits most owner-operators. Second Alarm is $4,500 for eight to ten pages, for companies with interior, exterior, cabinet and commercial work to rank separately. Half is paid to start and half at launch, with no hourly billing.
We don’t have good before-and-after photos. Is that a problem?
It means we start with what you have and you take better ones from here. We’ll send a short shot list: same spot, same angle, before and after, daylight where you can get it. A phone is plenty. Until the gallery fills in, the site leans on your reviews and your process, not stock photos of someone else’s living room.
Should the site mention lead paint?
If you work on homes built before 1978, yes, carefully. EPA rules require a certified firm and certified renovators for paid work that disturbs paint in those homes, and firms without the certification can’t advertise that work. If you’re certified, we put it where people see it. If you’re not, we leave it off and don’t imply it.
What happens to the site in winter?
Exterior work slows here once it gets cold, but interiors, cabinets and commercial repaints keep going, and a lot of homeowners plan spring exteriors over the winter. The site takes estimate requests all year, and the home page can lead with interior work when the weather turns.
Is Spanish worth it for a painting company here?
In a lot of Lake County towns, many families are more comfortable in Spanish, and a homeowner who can read your whole page in the language they think in is more likely to call. The switch costs nothing extra on any plan, and the Spanish is written by people, not a translation widget.

We build for painting contractors in Lake County, McHenry County and the rest of the northwest suburbs, from Waukegan and Gurnee to Crystal Lake and Barrington. The whole job works by phone, text and email when a sit-down isn’t practical. If your crews cover towns outside that area, that is fine too.
