A website in 60 seconds, or one that gets calls?
AI builders like Durable and Voolt will write and publish a contractor site in about a minute for a few dollars a month. Here is what that gets you, and where it falls short.

Same trade. Two very different first screens.
This is what a homeowner sees in the first second on their phone. On the left, a typical AI-built site, recreated by us for a made-up company. On the right, a real site we built for a concrete contractor in Palatine.

- “Transforming spaces with excellence” could be any company in any state.
- Filler the tool writes for everyone: no jobs, no towns, no owner.
- “Get a Quote” opens a form. Someone with a cracked driveway wants to call.
- A stock patio, not your work.

- The trade and the town up top, then every town it serves: what Google and ChatGPT match a search to.
- One tap calls Dave, and a call bar stays under your thumb the whole way down.
- Family owned since 1976: a reason to trust, not a slogan.
- English and Spanish, one tap.
Drag one into the other.
Same trade, same size phone. Slide the handle and watch the first screen change.
Lakeside Concrete is made up; we built its page the way these tools usually set one up, with licensed stock photos. Creative Concrete Co. is a real client. Read how we built it.
- 1Search
- 2Tap
- 3Call
Two taps from Google to your phone ringing.
Every site we build is set up to turn a search into a call. That’s the whole job of a contractor website, and it’s where most template and AI sites lose the customer.
- Search
- Tap the result
- Tap Call
- Search
- Tap the result
- Open the menu
- Find Contact
- Fill a form
- Wait for a reply
- Tap to call on every screenA call bar sits under their thumb from the first screen to the last.
- Tap to text a photoPeople with a cracked driveway would rather send a picture than explain it.
- A form that never loses a leadEvery request lands in your inbox and in our back office, spam filtered out.
- Calls you can countEvery tap on Call and Text is counted, so you know what the site brought in.
- Your trade and town up topSo Google, ChatGPT and the homeowner all know you work where they live.
- English and SpanishEvery site, both languages, no extra charge.
What you actually get for the money.
| AI website builder | Salty Web Co | |

| The words | Generated from a short prompt; reads like other sites the tool made | Written with you from a phone call: your jobs, your towns, how you work |

| Pages for each service and town | A few generic ones | Built for the searches that bring your jobs |
| Spanish version | Varies by tool | Included on every site |
| If you stop paying | The site goes offline | It’s still yours |
| When it breaks | A help center or chat | The person who built it answers, within one business day |
AI builder prices checked October 1, 2026 on each company’s pricing page: Voolt from $7 a month ($14 for Premium, domain $19 a year); Durable free on a Durable address, $22–$41 a month billed yearly for your own domain and more features.
Google and ChatGPT recommend specifics.
When a homeowner asks their phone for “a concrete contractor near Grayslake”, Google and AI assistants look for a business that clearly does that work, in that town, with reviews and photos to back it up. A page that says “we provide quality concrete solutions for all your needs” gives them nothing to go on.
A page that says you pour driveways and patios in Grayslake, Hainesville and Round Lake, shows a driveway you finished on a real street, and has your Google reviews behind it gives them everything. That is the difference between a site that exists and a site that gets the call.
When does the site pay for itself?
A website is a one-time cost that works every day. Put in your own numbers: for a lot of trades it only takes one or two jobs from the site to cover it.
“The biggest thing for me is that I’ve actually seen an increase in leads and new business since working with them, which is exactly what you want from a website.”

Use the AI builder if… go custom if…
An AI builder makes sense when
- You have no site at all and need something up this week
- You are testing a new service before committing to it
- You will rewrite the words yourself and add your own photos
A custom site is worth it when
- You want the calls that come from Google and AI search, not just a page that exists
- You don’t want to rent your website forever
- You want it to sound like you, in English and Spanish
- You’d rather call a person than open a help chat
